Ali Rainback (Director of New Generation)
We have chosen the North Face Free Thinker Jacket, the Cargo
Park Pant and Red Point Jacket as our uniform this winter. Seeing
as our whole team are out in the harsh winter environment for
nearly every day of the season, we need something to cope with
the elements whilst still look good in front of our clients.
The equipment has stood up very well indeed, it looks great
but most importantly it has managed to keep the team warm and
dry throughout the season. There are a number of points about
the kit that is worth knowing so I asked the team to give me
their opinion…… The Freethinker
Jacket The Redpoint Jacket
The Freethinker Jacket (North Face)
Ruth Mosley (Ex-British demonstration ski team, BASI Trainer,
Instructor in Vallandry) I love my jacket! I’ve been working with New Generation
for four seasons and to be honest this one far exceeds all others
we’ve had. It’s well thought out in terms of pockets
and zips etc and looks great. It is a shell so you have to be
careful to layer up when it’s cold as there is no insulation
from the jacket alone but this works well when it’s spring
time with hot days on the slopes!
The Redpoint Jacket - (Inner Layer
or Spring Jacket)
Ant Pilarski (Ex National Team, Race coachand Verbier Manager)
The Redpoint jacket acts as a jacket on it’s own or a
final layer when the weather really gets cold! For teaching
skiing at low level you’re not moving around too much
so you do tend to get cold and this is where it comes in to
it’s own. If you do some more active exercise the jacket
doesn’t breathe so you can get a bit uncomfortable from
time to time.
The S.T.H Jacket
An excellent spring jacket! Th S.T.H is an
extremely comfortable jacket so is perfect for a bit of free
skiing. It is water resistent but we don't wear if it looks
like rain. We were suprised at how smart it looks and have taken
to wearing it throughout the year as a kind of off-the-hill
uniform.
The Verdi Down Jacket
Awesome. This is like taking your duvet for
a walk. Our snowboarders wear the Verdi on the hill as it is
very warm but at the same time extremely well made so you don't
get restricted movement like we have experienced in other down
jackets. Check the size if you are going to buy one because
the smaller members of our team looked a bit swamped!! This
is easily the best down jacket we have ever tried. Great work
North Face!
The Men's Park Cargo Pant
'Hardcore waterproof, breathable pants for
eye-catching romps at the terrain park'
These are the best looking ski and snowboard pants on the mountain.
We love the baggy style and the warm liner. There is a BUT -
we would argue that there is a slight design floor that we believe
you only notice if you are on the mountain for a long period
of time in harsh conditions (rain and sleet). The inner leg
zips let the water drip into the leg! - This should not put
you off as it is very unlikely that you will spend that long
on the mountain in terrible conditions. One of the ideas of
our relationship with North Face is that we continually provide
feedback on kit so we have!!
