BASI
Alpine Level 1 Instructor Training Course
This is the entry level course for students who wish to join the BASI
Education System. The qualification is for those wishing to find employment
in a non mountain environment, i.e. Dry Slopes and Indoor Snowslopes.
It is also the 1st stage of the BASI Alpine Instructor Training Course.
Our team are ready to introduce you to the world of

Who can apply?
Before applying for the Instructor course, students must meet the following
criteria:
- Be able to ski confidently, coping with a variety of conditions
and have completed at least 16 weeks on snow
- Ski confidently parallel on black runs, being able to make rhythmical
turns close to the fall line at a steady pace
- Be able to ski confidently and in control in off-piste conditions
- Have an understanding of Client Care
- Be 16 years of age or older

Working with you Level 1 qualification
Although your Level 1 qualification is only the first
stage of the BASI system you can actually start your working career.
All Level 1's can work on UK dry / indoor slopes once they have also
achieved the following:
1. First Aid Certificate
2. Child Protection Module
3. 35 hours of ski school experience (click here for

status but it is always worth checking with BASI as the ball park does
tend to move now and again]
BASI Alpine Level 1 Instructor Course
This is a 5 day on-snow training and assessment course in which the
following subjects are covered and assessed:
- Skiing safely
- Participating in an accident and emergency activity
- Planning, conducting and evaluating an instructing session
- Knowing and understanding how to improve personal skiing and instructing
performance
On completion of this course, students will have
an understanding of:
- The Central Theme and Beyond
- The Skiers' Code of Conduct
- The Principles of Ski Teaching
- The Structure of Snowsports in the UK
- The Roles of Snowsport Agencies in the UK
- Marketing and Promoting Snowsports in the UK
- Dealing with accidents and emergencies
Successful students will be issued a certificate of
competence. Students will be able to work at the UK indoor and dry slopes
if they also obtain their First Aid and Child Protection Certificates
(Both these certficates must be approved by on courses approved by BASI).
On completion of the Trainee Instructor course all students are individually
debriefed and advised on the degree of preparation required before presenting
themselves for the BASI Alpine Level 2 Instructor Course. If required
standards are not met during the assessmnet, students may be required
to repeat the Trainee Instructor Course.
Resources
The course fee includes all course materials plus copies of the BASI
Manual and Alpine Manual which will be handed out at the start of the
course.
Course Dates and Fees
Please note that all course dates are on-snow dates and do NOT include
travel time to and from the course. All of the courses run on-snow from
Monday through to Friday and will start with a Sunday evening briefing
and registration.

BASI Membership
In order to participate in the Instructor course, students are required
to join BASI as an associate member. The membership charge of £45
will be collected along with the course fee at time of booking.
Insurance
Insurance is compulsory for attending a BASI course and before commencing
the course your trainer will check that you are insured.
Accommodation, Travel and Lift Passes
Once your course is confirmed we recommend you sort out your flights
and accommodation. We are not a tour operator but we have set up a deal
with Pleisure holidays to try and help you out. Pleisure have some excellent
chalets in 1550 and Le Praz, they will offer you a week's accommodation
