NEW BRITISH SNOWBOARD SCHOOL

We are small group of British snowboarders who can legally work in France. This season we will be based full-time in Meribel , Val d'Isere and Courchevel.

We are working as part of New Generation Ski School who were one of the first British Ski Schools in the French Alps and helped to change the face of ski teaching (No Bend Zee Knees!). Lets hope we can help do the same for snowboarding!!

Our lesson programme is derived from our teaching experiences in America, Canada, Switzerland and Andorra. We use the latest techniques to ensure quick progression in a fun but safe enviornment. Our Learn 2 Ride programme covers everything from making those first turns on a snowboard to the highest level of Freeride and Freestyle.

We love teaching everyone from beginners to park addicts.

If you have any questions or wish to book lessons please email our office staff info@skinewgen.com or call 0033 479 01 03 18 (From UK - Cheap rate 0844 484 3663).

Terminology

Here are some of the most commonly
used snowboarding terms to get you
on your way.

Frontside

The frontside of the snowboard is
over the toeside edge.

Backside

The backside of the snowboard is over
the heelside of the edge.

Fakie

A term of riding backwards.

Switch

The term for performing a trick or riding
backwards, the rider has 'switched' his/
her stance.

Course Level 2

The Level 2 programme concentrates on building speed and control as you become more and more familiar with the snowboard feeling.

Day 1
Equipment check / setup. Go over basic turning on green runs and riding lifts. Slope safety.

Day 2
Ride Blue runs and refine turning technique on more challenging terrain.

Day 3
Practice on Blue runs to consolidate and build confidence.

Day 4
Switch riding on easy slopes. 180s on flatland

Day 5
Tactics for riding steeper slopes and red runs

Revert

To switch from riding fakie to forward, or from forward to fakie, usually while the snowboard is still touching the ground.

Rear hand

The trailing hand closest to the tail.

Ollie

Using the flex of the tail of the board
combined with well co-ordinated
pressure control movements to get airborne.

Jib

Describes a style of riding that most
closely resembles street skateboarding
(slide rails, bonk trees, flatland tricks).

Learn 2 Freeride

Day 1
A large part of snowboarding is learning to use the mountain. The first afternoon concentrates on technique and board control in steeper and more challenging slopes. It includes:
· Steep terrain
· High performance Carved and skidded turns
· Equipment setup for Freeride

Day 2
The second afternoon applies your learning from day 1, helping you to ride more challenging terrain. Includes:
· Bumps and Moguls
· Trees
· Off piste
· Powder

Going Off-piste

It is a simple truth that snowboarding
was invented to go freeriding in deep powder.

There is nothing like the feeling of making your first powder turn or slashing your first powder lip.

If you are heading off-piste then we advise that you are properly equipped and are fully aware of the dangers. All our instructors have spent time and money learning about
the dangers of the back country.

Vital equipment: Avalanche tranceiver, shovel, probe, mobile phone, first aid kit

Finally, without wishing to preach, your equipment is only useful if you know
how to use it. Enjoy the pow.

Learn 2 Freestyle

Day 1
Learn the basics of freestyle in preparation for the terrain park. Starting with flatland tricks including:
· Switch riding
· Ollies
· 180’s
· Nose and tail press
· Equipment setup for freestyle
· Safety equipment

Day 2
Learn to ride the terrain park safely using easy progressions. Including:
· Jumps
· Halfpipe
· Rails and Boxes
· Park safety

All snowboarders are advised to wear helmets in the park.

Flatland

Term used to describe tricks performed
on a flat slope without obstacles.

Bonk

The act of hitting an object or obstacle
with the snowboard.

Chicken Salad Air

The rear hand reaches between the legs
and grabs the heel edge between the
bindings while the front leg is boned. Also,
the wrist is rotated inward to complete
the grab

Pop Tart

Airing from fakie to forward in the halfpipe
without rotation.
