Kids:

• Whippersnappers and Wallabies will need a Mini-pass for the first 1 to 2 days, which may need to be upgraded as per the instructor’s advise.
• Young Arrows to Bombers will need a Meribel Valley Pass.
• Rockets will need a Meribel Valley Pass, but may need to upgrade to a 3 Valleys Pass for the last 1 or 2 days.
• Free-riders and Pro-riders will need a 3 Valleys Pass.

Adults:

T4 Nannies
T4 offer a private nanny service in Val d’Isere, Tignes, Meribel, Courchevel, La Tania, La Plagne and La Rosiere. They hand pick nannies who share the belief that undivided attention, fun and getting involved are the key ingredients to a happy family holiday.

Their nannies are able to drop children off at and pick them up from Ski School. However, for group lessons, they will need to be given your unique password to ensure we do not release your child to the wrong person.

Meribel resort in France is a great place to learn to ski and snowboard for both adults and children. There are multiple beginner areas which are wide, and open and have gentle pistes to help you build your confidence.

For kids learning to ski, Meribel has special pistes that wind their way through the forest with soundtracks from Frozen and animations to play with. We often take our youngest kids’ ski groups through the magic forest and they absolutely love it!

We’d highly recommend visiting Meribel for your next winter holiday, as it caters to all abilities – skiing or snowboarding.

Meribel is a relatively high ski resort, sitting at 1450m altitude and snow is rarely a problem, until the spring time. The snow is well managed in the spring as some slopes are south facing so do get affected by the sun. But Meribel is such a large resort that even with one run closed, there are always plenty of options to still move about with ease.

The closest airport to Meribel ski resort is technically the small airport in Meribel. But that’s only suitable for small private aircraft. The closest international airport to Meribel ski resort is Chambery. But the largest choice of flights are from Geneva or Lyon.

Fly

If you’re arriving by air then you’ll probably fly into either Grenoble, Lyon or Geneva.

Airport Transfers

There are public buses from the airport, but you’ll need to change at Moutiers, and they’re not cheap, so if there are a few of you, it’s often cheaper to share a transfer.

The train is the cheapest option from the airports, but again, this will involve several changes, and the trains are somewhat infrequent.

Drive

It’s about a 9hr drive once in France to reach Méribel. The benefits of driving are no luggage restrictions and the option of an extra day skiing during a week’s holiday but the tolls can be quite pricey on the motorways so something to consider.

Train

The Eurostar offers overnight trains direct from London St Pancras to Moutiers (about 25mins from Méribel, at the foot of the mountain). If you don’t mind overnight travel, and can sleep on trains (or are willing to forego sleep) then this can be one of the cheapest and most convenient ways to reach the Alps. Plus, no extra charge for ski carriage. You just need to be able to carry all your gear!

The one thing we like about Meribel is that it has something for every budget. If you want to stay in a high end chalet or hotel on the slopes it will be expensive. But if you’d prefer a charming stay in an AirBnB or self catered apartment, it will be cheaper. Eating out on the mountain can be expensive, but equally there are plenty of snack bars and bakeries dotted around the slopes and town to pick up a lighter lunch.

Typically, staying further down the hill means accommodation is cheaper. You could stay in Les Allues or charming Meribel Village to avoid paying high prices in Meribel centre. Choose to hop on the bus or ski from the neighbouring villages to Meribel centre.

Whether you’re a non-skier, or have one in your party, or you’re looking for something to do when the weather draws in, Méribel offers plenty of non-skiing activities to keep you entertained.

There’s the Olympic Centre in the centre of resort with:

• a large swimming pool with a slide
• a bowling alley
• climbing wall
• ice skating rink

Or you could book an excursion such as dog sledding, a hot air balloon ride or try your hand at parapenting to take in the view.

Or if you fancy something a little more athletic, and ground-based, why not try your hand at cross-country skiing? Or alternatively, Simply Savoie offer Guided snowshoe walks around Courchevel. Get off-the-beaten-track and discover the “real mountains” with Mark Tennent.

At the highest levels (in terms of altitude) neighbouring Meribel is: Mont Vallon nearly tops 3000m (2952m to be precise) and other high peaks near Meribel include the Aiguille de Fruit (3051m), Dent de Burgin (2739m), Mont du Borgne (3153m), Roc de Tougne (2537m) and Rocher de la Loze (2526m).

If you want to party on the slopes, head over to La Folie Douce or Rond Point to dance in your ski boots and party! If you’re down in the town, Jacks bar is very close to the Chaudanne snow front, so it’s hard to walk past without having a drink and listening to the awesome local bands.

The Pub is very central meaning you can nip back to your accommodation and wander back into town for food and live music. Around the peak week holidays, Meribel will put on street parties and shows with dancers and DJs that parade around the streets. It’s a lot of fun!

Sullys is more of a nightclub for those who like to stay out all night, and LDV (Lodge du Village) is a lively bar and restaurant in Meribel Village which often has live music and special themed nights.

Meribus is a free bus service, no need for a lift pass even! There are 3 main lines running between Meribel Centre and Les Allues & Meribel Village (line A), Plateau & Altiport (line B) and Mottaret (line D). Timetables available in the New Gen shop or the Tourist Office. The bus runs 7 days a week, 7am to Midnight.

The main drop off points in Meribel are at: La Chaudanne (close to our meeting point) and Centre (close to our shop, the Tourist Office and other useful shops)
