A popular ski resort in the French Alps, Avoriaz is famous for its stunning snowy landscapes and excellent skiing, perfect for winter sports enthusiasts. Conveniently located near the French-Swiss border, Avoriaz is easily accessible by air.

Flying to Avoriaz

There are regular bus services that operate from Geneva Airport to Avoriaz, with a journey time of approximately 2 hours. Alternatively, you can also book a private transfer or taxi directly from the airport to your accommodation in Avoriaz.

Other Airports Near Avoriaz

Although Geneva Airport is the closest option, there are other airports within driving distance of Avoriaz:

  • Chambéry Airport (CMF) is 147 km away and offers a more direct route to Avoriaz. However, it offers fewer flight choices.
  • Lyon Airport (LYS) is the largest airport in the region. It is located 220 km from Avoriaz and offers a wider range of flight options.
  • Grenoble Airport (GNB) is the furthest option at 225 km away, but it also has regular bus services and private transfer options for travellers heading to Avoriaz.

Avoriaz by Car

Driving from Calais to Avoriaz typically takes 8 hours to cover the 893 Kilometer journey, depending on traffic and road conditions. The advantage of driving is the lack of luggage restrictions and the possibility of an extra day of skiing during a week’s holiday. It’s worth being mindful that French motorway tolls can accumulate significantly and will cost approximately £75 from Calais to Avoriaz, so it’s important to factor these costs into your travel plans. According to Rometorio, a one-way trip from Calais to Avoriaz will cost £124 to £178 in fuel alone, depending on driving factors. When combined with toll expenses and vehicle mileage, this option can be quite costly.

Les Gets by Train

Unfortunately, there are no direct trains to Avoriaz from the UK. However, there are options for those travelling from London to nearby Geneva via Paris.

Departing London St Pancras International on the Eurostar train to Paris Gare du Nord takes 2 hours and 20 minutes and costs from £51. The second leg leaves Paris Gare du Lyon on the TGV Lyria train to Geveva Cornavin . Tickets cost from £25 with this leg of the journey taking 3 hours and 11 minutes.

In total the train transit time from London to Geneva will be approximately 5 hours and 30 minutes costing in the region of £76. This doesn’t however factor in the 3.5 mile connection in Paris from Gare de Nord to Gare de Lyon.

The Paris Metro will depart Gare de Lyon every 5 minutes to châtelet les halles station on train line B towards SCAL. Upon reaching châtelet les halles change trains to line A for trains towards NEGE. This will take you to Paris Gare de Lyon. This connection takes approximately 10 minutes and costs in the region of £4. Alternatively there will be an availability of taxis from Gare Nord to Gare Lyon. This trip should cost in the region of £12 to £15 and take 10 minutes which is heavily dependent on Paris traffic.

Once at Geneva Cornavin, private transfers will be able to take you onwards to Geneva. For shared transfers an additional train will need to be taken from Geneva Cornavin to Geneva Airport taking 7 minutes and costing from £9.

It is worth bearing in mind that this journey is not sold as a connection. Therefore, it will be up to the traveller to ensure that they have sufficient time to transit Paris in order to make the connecting train. Transfers from Geneva to Avoriaz will also have to be booked in advance of your journey.
