With half-term fast approaching, kids are getting excited to spend some time away from school and mums and dads are excited to spend some quality family time on the slopes. If you’re headed to Morzine, you’re in luck! Morzine is an exceptionally family-friendly resort due to the very reasonable 1.25 hour trip from Geneva airport, and with lots of local families living there year-round, there is plenty of activities to keep the kids busy.

Visit our Morzine Resort Guide for more information.

Morzine kids skiing

On the slopes

With plenty of greens and blues, Morzine is great for children to ski. Along with some nice wide, sweeping reds for the more adventurous kiddos.  A great run for young ones is Chemin des Zou Zou.  It is 2km in distance, running through the trees below the Pleney gondola. It features lots of different animals, from a pheasant up in the trees, to a family of gorillas and even a unicorn!

Another educational trip on the slopes could be to view Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps, standing at 4810m.  Mont Blanc can be seen from many points in Morzine on a clear day, but the view is particularly beautiful from the top of the Ranfoilly Express.  By turning left at the top of this chairlift, you can take the Gentiane run which link to the Choucas run (both blues) to take you back to Morzine.

In Les Gets, there are two green runs next to each other at the top of the Chavannes Express (turn right at the top), Les Indiens and Les Trappeurs.  Les Indians has a native Indian theme with tipis and music to ski to, there are lots of bumps and banks to play on and jump from.  Les Trappeurs has animals lining the run, face-painting, treasure hunts, drawing contests and other games in the snow on Fridays and Sundays 10.30am – 3pm.

If you have the full Portes du Soleil lift pass, more adventurous skiers and boarders can go and visit the Burton Stash, a natural freestyle course.  The ‘Stash’ in Avoriaz is one of only 6 of these type of parks in the world.   There are some easy, child-friendly features such as the picnic table to slide across, or the journey through the Stash is fun and adventure filled going through the trees and over bumps.  If you don’t fancy skiing or boarding through it, you can see parts of the Stash, and its carved figurines from the Prolays chairlift.

Off-hill activities

If you fancy having a day off from skiing, or even after you have been skiing for the day, there are plenty of activities in Morzine centre for children to get involved with.  Take a ride around the village on the fun train, leaving from the Pleney gondola or the Super Morzine gondola.

Every Tuesday from 9th February to 1st March, 10am- 6pm, Morzine village is having a carnival, which promises face paints, fancy dress and a carnival parade, amongst other fun activities and shows.  If you are around the Tourist Information office, this is where you will find most of the action!  Also next to the tourist office is the outdoor ice rink, so why not go and have a skate around?

In Avoriaz, if you want to give skiing a miss, you can pay a visit to Aquariaz, an aquatic paradise in the mountains!  You can enjoy slides, geysers and water guns, a river with a gentle current, a paddling pool, an outdoor spa and climbing walls.  There are even massage benches there, so something for the adults too.  In Avoriaz, you can also get a sleigh ride around the town, as no vehicles are permitted up there.  Kids love seeing the horses trotting around in the snow, and it really is a fun activity for all ages.

If you fancy a dip a little closer to your accommodation, Morzine also has a swimming pool that has games for children every Monday 5-6pm until 11th April.  This is free with the swimming pool ticket, so arrive in good time, as spaces are limited.

Last but not least, something for everyone… THE PENGUINS! Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets have an ice hockey team (their stadium is easily accessible by foot from Morzine centre) and have regular fixtures.  The atmosphere is amazing as about 2000 people turn out for their games, both tourists and locals.  Picture hotdogs, drums, chanting and a rapid paced game and you’ve got the right idea!
