Off-Piste Essentials

Our Off-Piste Essentials course is for strong piste skiers, ready to explore beyond the marked runs. If you’ve flirted with the edges of the pistes but haven’t ventured further, this course is your perfect next step.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Understanding Avalanche Safety – Get to know your avalanche safety equipment and learn how to use it.
  • Skill Development – On-piste exercises and drills designed to build the foundational skills needed for off-piste skiing.
  • Adapting to Conditions – Learn to ski in varying snow conditions and apply these skills in off-piste settings.
  • Terrain Navigation – Receive an introduction to reading and understanding terrain, enabling you to choose safe travel routes when skiing off-piste.

Equipment Needed:

A transceiver, shovel, and probe are required. Don’t have your own? No problem— let us know when booking, and we’ll provide everything you need.*

What to Expect

Our approach seamlessly combines exceptional coaching with expert guiding, creating a win-win scenario for all participants. Some of our courses focus primarily on coaching, while others are closer to skiing with a guide, that gives you feedback on the move.

Our Essentials and Technique programmes have the strongest instructional aspect. As you move through Advanced, Expert and then Backcountry programmes the focus shifts towards guiding. As you progress we also move from technical coaching and skill based development to looking at different tactical skills. Allowing you to start skiing with more rhythm and flow, no matter what comes your way.

On all course we’ll continuously adjust the focus between instruction and guiding to accommodate varying ski levels, weather conditions, snow quality, and individual needs. You’ll learn technical skills while soaking in breathtaking landscapes, incredible descents, and the best of everything the resort has to offer.

What To Expect Off Piste

Tips

Ensure your boots are a snug fit and the right size—comfort is crucial, especially in the backcountry. Check that your skis are in good condition and have been serviced recently. If you’ve hired skis, the rental shop should handle this.

Learning a new skill can be physically demanding, regardless of your age or ability. It’s worth spending some time on your fitness before your holiday. During your lesson, maintain open communication with your instructor. If you feel tired, let them know. They can adjust the day’s plan by adding breaks or selecting runs that match your energy level.

Before your lessons, tell us about your skills and goals. This helps us find the right instructor for you. Plus, it allows them to tailor the day to your needs. Be honest about your abilities. Whether you want to challenge yourself or prefer easier terrain, your honesty is key.

Practising outside your lessons will help you get the most out of your time with our team. Start on familiar slopes, then progress to more challenging ones to improve. This approach builds your skills before trying new techniques or steeper slopes. If a setback affects your confidence, don’t hesitate to try again the next day. Persistence is key.
