What could you learn in our Private Off-Piste Ski Lessons?

Private Off-Piste Ski Lessons Overview

We offer both off-piste lessons and off-piste guiding.  So whether you’ve never ventured outside of the piste markers, or you’re looking for hidden powder stashes, we’ll help you find fresh tracks and teach you to ski them with style.

Please note, avalanche safety equipment will be required for most off-piste lessons unless you’re learning techniques within the piste markers. If you do not have your own we may have some we can loan you, or we can advise you where you can hire it.

And while we really love taking you on these adventures, each session is condition dependent and the safety of you and our instructors is paramount.

Short Morning Off-Piste Ski Lessons

As these are private lessons, you decide what you want to work on, and we can help you achieve it! Share the lesson with a friend of a similar level, or focus on yourself one-on-one.

Want to glide through the powder, making consistent turns effortlessly? We’ve got you! Typically, snow conditions are best first thing in the morning, so a morning private ski lesson is great.

Long Morning Off-Piste Ski Lessons

If you want to make the most of the epic morning conditions with the help of our experienced ski instructors, then a long morning private off-piste lesson is a fantastic option. Skiing alongside an instructor means you get to skip the lift queue, meaning you’ll be one of the first up the mountain to get untouched snow.

If you choose a longer private lesson, you’ll have more time to find new spots of fresh snow, practice avalanche safety and build confidence, leaving you buzzing for more off-piste fun!

Afternoon Private Off-Piste Ski Lessons

By booking an afternoon off-piste ski lesson with us, you can spend the morning skiing with friends and family, have a quick bite to eat and then spend the afternoon having an adventure!

The mornings can often be unpredictable if it’s a fresh snow day. Later on in the day, the conditions have been assessed by the ski patrol, and you start to explore further, making the most of the conditions.

Full Day Private Off-Piste Ski Lessons

  • If you’re out with us all day, and we’re heading into the backcountry, we might stop at a refuge. Or we might grab lunch on the mountain if you’re skiing with us all day, so bring a sandwich in your backpack or bring some money for a bite to eat. Your instructor will inform you of lunch plans beforehand.
  • If you have avalanche equipment, please bring your own. We can provide avalanche equipment if necessary. Please inform us beforehand so we can prepare the equipment for you.
  • Please bring a mobile phone with you.
  • Please wear a helmet for all off-piste lessons.
  • Make sure you’ve got a piste map in your pocket (you can pick them up from most lift stations or the tourist office.)

For group off-piste lessons, children aged 16 and over can join us. Please look at our off-piste levels to ensure they’re in the right group for their ability.

For private off-piste lessons, it is up to the consent of their parents or carers. Our experienced team of instructors have the right not to take anyone off-piste if they feel the conditions or the skier’s ability make it unsafe.

Yes absolutely! If it’s a private off-piste lesson, we’re guided by you and what you want to achieve. So if you’re getting tired, say, and we can stop.

As for Group Off-Piste Lessons, we’ll stop every now and again to chat about technical skills, give feedback, and, of course, stop for breaks to rest and refuel. For all of our off-piste courses, bringing snacks and water in your backpack is a good idea.

Please ensure you have adequate Off-Piste mountain rescue insurance.

We recommend hiring an off-piste ski or an all-mountain ski. Anything that is 100mm underfoot means the ski’s width is no less than 100mm under the binding (where your foot attaches to the ski). Most rental shops will allow you to swap your skis for the times when you want to ski off-piste at no extra cost, but this could vary between resorts and countries.

Your backpack must be big enough to carry the items mentioned in our first FAQ. Roughly a 20L pack should be large enough, and it’s good to look for backpacks that have a ski-carrying feature. This is particularly useful for any sections where we must take skis off and hike up a steep pitch to access the off-piste terrain. Ellis Brigham has a good selection – look at a selection of suitable off-piste backpacks from Ellis Brigham.

Unfortunately, we’ll likely have to cancel the course if this is the case. But we’ll open the discussion with everyone booked on, as there are always mountain safety scenarios we can practice if the snow conditions aren’t always favourable.

Yes! We have four off-piste levels, so look at which level you’d be best suited to. We always match our groups based on these off-piste levels.

In our novice and beginner off-piste courses, we will introduce everyone to the equipment and teach everyone how to use it. In every level group, we will do checks to ensure you know how to use the equipment, and if there are any doubts we will go over everything once again to be safe.
