Always wanted to live & work in a ski resort?

Meet the company that lets you live and work in a ski resort, without changing your job.

What if your favourite ski resort was no longer just a holiday destination? What if it became your home? Sure, we can all dream about winning the lottery, quitting our job and seeing out our days in an Alpine retreat. But, what if there was another, more realistic, way? Working the same job, in a different location. No more commuting in busy traffic, or spending your lunch break planning your next week in the snow.

According to Gitlab.com: Nearly 1 in 3 remote workers plan to relocate or to work from abroad after lockdowns are lifted.

Introducing Heyday Chalet

Heyday Chalet, Morzine

While much of the world found itself working from home in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, one Irish man began setting his dream project in motion. Heyday Chalet, a digital nomad space located in the ski paradise of Morzine, is the brainchild of Plunkett McCullagh. After years of working remotely across Asia and Canada, he fell in love with the “co-living” way of life, and In 2021, Heyday Chalet was born.

Operating from a traditional ski chalet in Morzine, Heyday Chalet is designed to cater to all the professional needs of the modern digital nomad/skier. Featuring superfast broadband, quiet workspaces, private bedrooms and a state-of-the-art kitchen, that are all geared towards making your stay as productive and comfortable as possible.

You can even adjust the length of your stay to suit your needs. Pop in for a couple of nights, or stay as long as you like — at any time of the year. Unlike standard chalet accommodation, your stay at Heyday Chalet can be booked to start, and end, on any day of the week.

A Digital Nomad/Skier’s Dream

Instead of putting aside the usual week or two each winter to get your skiing fix, you can now make Morzine your base for the entire winter season. All without having to take any holiday leave, or even missing out on any actual work. And, if you own or rent a place near the head office, why not hand the keys to a friend, and put it up on Airbnb?

Judging by the reviews for Heyday Chalet, guests are loving not only the location and the chalet itself but also the community spirit (and Panda, Plunkett’s dog). The focal point for Heyday Chalet communal get-togethers is the dining room. With a glowing fireplace and exposed wood roof beams, the dining room certainly looks inviting.

When it comes to mealtime, Heyday Chalet offers a combination of catering and self-catering. While many skiers may be used to the self-catering, grab and go, option, Plunkett’s sense of hospitality and community means that on certain nights there are also social meals. During the winter, there is a daily continental breakfast (with the option of a hot special), and three evening meals per week. While in the summer, there is daily continental breakfast, a weekly Friday social dinner, a weekly Tuesday social lunch and a weekly social BBQ.

Cable Cars over Morzine

Having spent many a ski holiday in Morzine over the years, Plunkett’s choice for Heyday Chalet was an easy one. Morzine is a part of the world-famous ski area, the Portes du Soleil. Featuring over  650 km of slopes and over 200 ski lifts, it is one of the two largest ski areas in the world.

Getting to neighbouring ski havens such as Les Gets and Avoriaz, from Morzine, is as easy as hopping on a cable car. Morzine also features some of the finest ski schools and ski hire shops on the planet, making it the ideal destination for skiers of all ability levels.

Once the snow disappears, Morzine is as much of an outdoor wonderland as it is during the winter. Mountain biking, hiking, and its proximity to Geneva airport (approx 1 hour 15 minutes via an airport transfer) are just a number of factors that have seen Morzine become a highly sought-after Alpine retreat, all year round. The ‘make your workmates jealous’ photo-ops remain constant, regardless of when you happen to be there.

While co-living/digital nomad spaces are becoming more common across Europe, in places like Spain (Anceu Coliving), Belgium (Nomad’s House) and Portugal (Same Same Living), Heyday Chalet is a somewhat niche product in the Alps and one that is sure to appeal to anyone looking to explore the digital nomad world, especially those with a penchant for the great outdoors and snow!
